Barry Moser: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There

In 1982 Barry Moser designed and illustrated Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the winner of the 1983 American Book Award for Design and Illustration. The next year, he followed it with the companion volume, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There.  Below are a few of the wood engravings available as well as a number of preparatory sketches available in limited supply.  Looking back from the thirty year anniversary of the Pennyroyal Alice, Moser did a series of drawings based on his original designs for both books. In 2012, R. Michelson Galleries held an anniversary exhibition of drawings and engravings from both books.  The video to the right has Moser’s comments looking back on the project.
