Paula Gottlieb was born in 1947 in Neptune, New Jersey. She received a BFA degree from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia with studies in Rome. In 1971 she graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington with an MFA degree. She has been painting and teaching for forty years. Paula has lived in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts since 1979.

“The stunning beauty of the land and my concern for its disappearance through development and degradation are the inspiration for these landscape paintings. Each scene I have chosen to paint is filled with personal meaning and connection to a particular place. My paintings are as much about paint as they are about person, place, and time. I am fascinated by light, by the interplay of light and shadow, by the tactility and flow of paint, by color. Nature is nature. Paint is paint. Nature inspires and informs my vision but I’m not interested in solely replicating what I see…rather, using paint to transform and resemble my perception of what I see and feel.”
