John Lennon

John Lennon with Yoko Ono

Before his Beatles days, John Lennon attended the Liverpool College of Art. Although he went on to become a prominent musician, he was also a writer, poet, activist, visual artist. Lennon primarily used pen, pencil or sumi ink to create line drawings that depict his life. He created the Bag One Portfolio as a wedding gift for Yoko Ono, which chronicled their wedding, honeymoon, and call to peace. It first debuted at the London Arts Gallery where, after the opening day, the show was then raided by officers and several works were confiscated on the grounds of indecency.

John Lennon’s prints and drawings are published alongside his written works, in In His Own Write, A Spaniard in the Works, and Skywriting by Word of Mouth.
