Sean Qualls

Sean Qualls grew up in Central New Jersey, now based in Brooklyn, NY where he originally moved to attend Pratt Institute. Dropping out after a year and a half, he was determined to continue his art career while working full time at the Brooklyn Museum. Qualls is an award-winning illustrator and author. His children’s books have garnered a Schneider Award and Coretta Scott King Honor from the American Library Association. His latest book, The Idea In You is a collaboration with Questlove. Qualls unique textural style reflects his immersion into the world of art since childhood; where he experimented with any and all mark making tools and matrices he could find. Qualls works with themes of race and identity and the intersection of history and mythology, which flows with the themes of connection and creating our own identities.
