The Man Behind Clifford: An interview with the Big Red Dog's creator, Norman Bridwell | School Library Journal

Norman Bridwell (1928-2014) began his artistic journey as a commercial artist based in New York. Looking to expand his career, he created a portfolio of work to submit for children’s book illustrations. After many rejections, he received the advice from a literary agent to write a story to accompany his illustrations. This was the start to what would become his famous series, Clifford the Big Red Dog. The book was soon published by Scholastic, the series went on to accumulate more than 80 books.
