(they wrestled hard, like two screaming hawks
till they became one gross bird)

and made him change his sibyl
to a faulty copy of what she was
(shoulders hunched and hands too large

and that new expression,
threatening yet uncertain)?
— useless now for any purpose

but as the evidence and trophy
of his triumph over the other
and her unimportance to either.
