Inferno VIII, 21-23

Dante and Virgil meet Phlegyas, the God of War, while entering the fifth circle of Hell. In this circle, we find the angry souls. Phlegyas is condemned to this circle, as well as being the guardian of The River Styx as punishment for burning the Apollonian Temple of Delphi during his mortal life. After using Phlegyas to break into the City of Dis, Dante just barely escapes from Phlegyas’s wrath.
