From the Vault: Wang Hui-Ming
Wang Hui-Ming: (1992 – 2006) Was born in China, and spent his youth attending the University of Amoy. Soon after, he served as an interpreter in World War II before immigrating to the United States to continue his studies. He received his B.S. in economics from the University of Missouri, and Masters from New York University. He went on to teach Chinese language and literature at Yale until 1961, when he began his artistic practice, by joining the Moses Brown School Department. By 1964 he was teaching art courses at UMass Amherst, where he stayed until retirement in 1988. In retirement, he was able to expand his artistic practice across a wide range of mediums including printmaking, which led him to create Epoh Studio Press, where he worked with printmaker Harold McGrath of Leonard Baskin’s The Gehenna Press. Hui-Ming’s unique ability to blend Chinese and Western influence shines through within his work.
