Chief Gall

A great chieftain of the Hunkpapa Sioux, he had joined with other plains chiefs in the veritable destruction of Custer at Little Big Horn. Earlier he had driven Gen. Reno & his troops across the river to the bluffs. “It was,” he said, “like chasing buffalo, a great chase.” He fell into disfavor with some, who claimed he had become too friendly with the whites. Gall, who was extremely intelligent, had learned the terrible lesson taught by the Springfield repeating rifle & faced the cruel reality of the white’s ultimate victory.
