Art Spiegelman was born in in Stockholm Sweden in 1948, and soon after moved to the united states where his career as a comic artist skyrocketed. He gained prominence in his career with Tops, and Mad, co-creating series like the Garbage Pail Kids, before working on larger scale, autobiographic projects such as the Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel, Maus. He has received several honors including being the first comic artist to receive the Edward MacDowell Medal, and is recognized in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.  His artwork has exhibited at museums and galleries both nationally and globally, with works on view at the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Pompidou Center in Paris, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Jewish Museum in New York City.
