Alan James Robinson

Alan James Robinson (1950-2026)
Illustrator, book designer, graphic artist, fisherman, bird watcher, map maker, Alan was a lover of nature and art. Under his imprints, Cheloniidae Press, and Press of the Sea Turtle, Alan published exquisite letterpress books filled with his etchings and engravings of birds and animals.
As a wildlife artist and outdoorsman, Alan was committed to advancing his understanding of nature through his many experiences visiting hunting and fishing lodges all over the world. He spent decades fishing the fabled waters of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado. Alan visited Alaska 7 times, Canada many times, Europe, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Tasmania, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa. He made numerous presentations to conservation groups and sporting clubs, helping their conservation fund raising efforts.
To us at R. Michelson Galleries, Alan was an always upbeat friend, happy to work with our clients on their special projects. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Alan’s family. A special acknowledgement to Alan’s brother Don who, before his retirement, many of you knew as our head-framer for over 25 years. Rest in peace Alan. May the birds and the animals guide you safely home.
Richard Michelson
