: Nan Hill

Nan Hill is a prominent realist painter in Western Massachusetts. Known primarily for eclectic “cultural kitsch” still life works, Hill has recently expanded her repertoire to include more traditional subjects.

Born in Minnesota, Nan relocated to Western Massachusetts to attend art school. An alumna of Smith College, she holds a degree in painting and art education from the University of Massachusetts.

Hill’s meticulous renderings of fruits, textiles, pastries and crumbled cakes have put her focus less on narrative play and metaphor, and more on the simple essence of visual meditations: pure light, texture and color.

Featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout Massachusetts, New Mexico, and New York City, Nan’s art is collected both publicly and privately on an international scale. Hill’s work has been represented by R. Michelson Galleries since 1996.  She currently lives with her husband, painter Randall Deihl, in Western Massachusetts.
