The souls that committed suicide or were accused of squandering during their lives are transformed into trees and bushes in the second ring of the seventh circle of Hell. These souls are made to be in constant pain and never fully reunite with their former bodies the way other souls do because of the fact that they intentionally removed themselves from them. This Bush soul explains all of this to Dante and reveals himself to be the soul
