John Gnatek was born
and raised on a small farm in Hadley, Massachusetts. It
was here that he and his two brothers, Michael and Frank,
studied under Stephen Hamilton of Amherst, a local artist,
and began their careers in art. Equally able in virtually
every medium, watercolor is John’s chosen favorite.
He is well known for his beautifully rendered street scenes
and notable landmarks.
John went on to study art at the University of Miami,
the Maryland Institute and the London City Guild Art School
in London, England. He is a member of the Academic Arts
Association, the Southern Vermont Art Center and the North
Shore Arts Association.
For the past twenty years, John has painted room-size
murals in the Massachusetts building of the Eastern States
Exhibition in Springfield, Massachusetts. President of
the Deerfield Valley Art Association 1974-76, he resides
in Easthampton, Massachusetts
