It
is impossible to overstate the importance of the internationally
acclaimed artist Leonard Baskin, in the world of art. A dominant
figure for more than 40 years, Mr. Baskin is the recipient of numerous
awards, amongst them a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Medal of the
American Institute of Graphic Arts. His work is in the permanent
collection of most of the world's major museums, including the Metropolitain
Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian and the
Vatican Museum.
R. Michelson Galleries will be showing
newly acquired, rare, and never before seen pieces by the internationally
acclaimed artist Leonard Baskin. This will be our first major showing
of Baskin's work since his death in early 2000. Since that time,
the importance of Baskin’s work has increased beyond its already
distinguished presence in the art world. Included in the show will
be a series of pen & ink drawings done for a translation of
Aristotle's "Politics and Poetics," a selection of early
sculpture, rare hand colored prints, and a wide range of watercolors
and engravings most of which have never before been publicly exhibited.
