One of the earliest attributed extant Baskin wood
carvings, this predates the artist’s mature
style. This prostrate bird shows an abstraction uncommon
in his later work. The sculpture was originally intended
to hang from above. This arrangement contrasts with
his later consistently monolithic sculptures.
